The artist in the backyard/ Title: In the company shapes. Oil on canvas
In my works (Black & grey & moon) you will appreciate the expression of human skin color in its different shades, in representations of abstract geometric shapes or similar to stylized human shapes.
Human skin, its color, its temperature, its aroma, its texture, are sensations that remain as an eternal need in the human being, from the past, present and future. You need contact and vision of the skin of others, and your own. A vision of the future cannot exclude human contact in favor of an isolationist idea of being in solitude, connected, but at a distance from others, far from the skin of others, this is the degradation of humanity and its dissolution as a society.
Those are some of my daily obsessions, that I’ve found a path to express in images by using neutral colors, the light and dark tones of skin, and geometric shapes.
Zinc sheets, which are widely used here in Uruguay, in roofs and walls of all types of home constructions, are bad for insulating temperature. Indoor environments become freezing in winter and very hot in summer. Although people use them widely because of their low cost and ease of installation.
When they deteriorate too much, commonly they recicle them for minor constructions such as chicken coops, sheds, pigsties, or dog houses. The paintings expresses my interest in the way these sheets change their color as they get rusty (after years of enduring cold, heat, rain, frost or hail) from the original metallic gray to a wide range of earthy colors, very interesting to experiment with differents art media.
Many years ago, I thought that copying fragments of reality was my path, until an art journalist called me ‘a great copyist’ at one of my exhibitions. It may have been a compliment, but I realized I had to change direction. Anyway I practice figrative painting as well as abstract, I liked potrait genre, I found myself very comfortable doing it .
I work as a visual artist and also teach art in secondary education, an activity that both keeps me up at night and excites me. My students surprise me every day with their artistic potential and their ideas and opinions about art, which inspire me in my creative work. I can learn as much from them as they learn from my classes.
Oil on canvas' process.
In a commissioned work, the facade of a perfume's shop in New Orleans, it so happened that when taking the photograph of the facade, a parade of musicians was passing by on the street (this type of parade are common and are so called a " Second Line"). Thus, the musicians and the people dancing in the background were incorporated into the painting, by chance.
(varnish is important)

Someone said ‘…life is a brief dream…’ I don’t know if it’s brief or not, but dreams are pure images, and creating meaningful images is my skill. Those that take us back to the world of dreams, or at least displace us from conscious and rational life.
